Corrugated pipe bell welding using friction
Friction welding is a common practice in europe to attach the bells
to the end of corrugated pipes. Unlike North America which has adopted
in line belling, requiring a liner
trimmer, the European standards typically require a thicker
bell than is achievable in most corrugating processes.
Pipe manufacturers achieve great flexibility when welding a bell
as a post corrugating process, achieving more flexibility in pipe
lengths, higher corrugator line speeds and a simpler extrusion system.
Friction bell welding supplies a high quality belled product, capable
of meeting all the European norms.
There are two type of welding systems that have evolved, the first
developed in Europe has the bell being welded to the outside of
the pipe, while the North American developments have the weld being
made between the inner wall of the pipe corrugation and the bell
flange. Either system has proven to work, but the resulting injection
mold costs for the North american bell designs are significantly
less than those used in Europe.
Spinwelder have been built to be in line with the corrugator, or
offset to the extrusion centerline. The line configuration is customer
speciffied. Often a spin welding line is supplied with additional
material handling such as weld pressure tester and pipe turning.
Many spin welder designs are available from Adescor. The high speed
double head machines for pipe sizes of 50mm - 120mm OD
have been proven to run at line speeds up to 20m/min welding 4m
lengths. The largest machine built to date is capable of running
to a 1200mm pipe OD. Adescor have a great track record and many
happy customers using their equipment. Its worth contacting us for
a quote, even if its to help your price negotiations with our competitors.
Spin welder video
We have selected video of some of our spin welder machines available
for our prospective customers to watch. In an effort to control
the distribution of the video you will require a username
and password to view our video. Please contact
us to get access to the files and we will get back to as quickly
as possible. The videos are in the windows .wmf format so you should
be able to view them on a typical windows computer. If you have
requirements for another file type please let us now and we will
arrange for a CD to be sent.
